In April 2019, the South Australia Government entered into a Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) with the federal government.
The purpose of the agreement is to aid businesses find overseas workers for employment sectors that face skill shortages, through Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482).
South Australia will have two DAMAs, the first in the Adelaide metropolitan region and the second in the surrounding regional area.
In the Metropolitan region, there will be 60 occupations on the Adelaide Innovation and Technology Agreement. This agreement will also include options to be granted permanent residency in South Australia.
The South Australian Regional Workforce Agreement covers all of South Australia and lists 114 occupations. The 114 occupations on the list include sectors such as agribusiness, aged care, hospitality, mining and construction.
Some of the occupations on both the Adelaide Innovation and Technology Agreement and the South Australian Regional Workforce Agreement can lead to permanent residency for those overseas workers who decide to take advantage if the scheme.
Concessions are also available to employers to make hiring overseas worker more appealing.
